Day 28, July 27, 13.1 miles
Whoop, whoop. I got new shoes. How exciting. I had ordered them to be sent to me and they have arrived. Just thought I’d share.
Today started with a really fun all-fours climb for a couple of hours. Then, it was constant ups and downs and the downs were really steep (as is always in the Whites). I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I’m really started to hate the downs. They are really treacherous and it seems it’s always wet. Today we made it to the last hut about lunchtime so we stopped in to eat lunch and fill up on water. While we were stopped, the thunder clapped a few times and the sky starting spitting rain. We waited a few minutes, but we had no choice but to keep moving. We had yet another straight up climb and the water was running down it like a river. The rain only lasted about 30 minutes, but the trail and all the trees and we the people were all soaked. Tis life on the AT. So much for nice, new shoes. They got baptized today.
I had a love/hate relationship with the trail today. Loved the climbs, hated the descents. It was so tedious, it took us 11-1/2 hours to hike 13.1 miles and that was with only a 30 minute lunch break and one 5 minute afternoon break. Good grief. It feels so good to get a spot where you can actually take at least 5 steps on flat ground every now and then.
We arrived at Imp campsite and shelter just before dark. I ate peanut butter and jelly and Doritos for supper because I didn’t have time before dark to cook. I’m tenting and it’s sprinkling. The guys are all in the shelter. I can’t believe I have phone service here. I can’t make calls though because I’m sharing a tent space with another lady and she hasn’t made a sound so I think she’s asleep and I’d wake her talking.
Tomorrow we get into Gorham, NH. Almost done with NH.

If by some remote chance you happen to meet a lady named Marium, she is the lady who took such good care of Copper. A real sweetheart and a trail angel. You never know who you’ll meet… After all, you met someone from Loganville on the trail! Also, the package was mailed on Monday. Loving your posts!
