Rooty Trail

Rooty Trail

Day 35, August 3, 13.2 miles

Last slackpack day–boohoo. I think while the trail is never easy, it seems easier when your slackpacking. Lifting yourself up on and over boulders seems so much easier with 10 extra lbs. as opposed to 30 extra lbs.

Today’s trail was good except it was horribly rooty. The roots are like monster arms that you have to try to step through while trying not to get tangled up in them. It’s quite hard to walk through all the roots. I don’t know how the trees survive with all the roots on top of the ground.

We started this morning with a long and steep climb up Old Blue Mtn. It was a nice climb. The rest of the day was up and down with lots of roots, rocks and slab walks. We ended the day with thunder and sprinkles and when we came out of the woods, there was a thunder, lightening and rainstorm over the lake. It was a beautiful and enjoyable day.

Earl had left us the truck at our finish, so we’re now going to Rumford, Mexico to resupply at Walmart and then get something for dinner. Pilgrim and Joyce are following us to Walmart and dinner. Marge (Honey) had a doctors appt. this afternoon so she won’t be cooking dinner tonight.

Getting closer to Big K every day.
