Day 17, July 16, 15 miles
I woke up this morning to 35 degree temps, but I had stayed nice and warm in my 15 degree sleeping bag. As expected, I didn’t want to get out of it, but I emerged about 5:30 am and got moving pretty quickly. Climbed up Mt Cube to a beautiful view. Face-timed with mama and daddy from the top. Wish they could have been there. The rest of today’s hike was ho hum.
I saw my second moose today run right across the trail in front of me. I also had a fox cross the trail in front of me. The trail seemed a bit easier today than yesterday. I’m meeting 1-2 SOBO’s a day now. I wish I were closer to the trail in Georgia so I could be a trail angel for them when they get there. The kindness of people has astounded me. It really restores your faith in humanity—total strangers. Everyone is so nice and helpful to one another—it’s very refreshing.
Another cold night tonight, but hopefully another comfortable one for me in my tent. I really like hiking when it’s chilly out, so I hope that’s what it’ll be. Tomorrow will be the first of the White Mountains. I hear it’s spectacular. I can’t wait. Will let you know.

Brrrrr that’s cold! I am glad it is better hiking weather. I’m sure mama and daddy enjoyed face-time with you on top of the mountain. Hoping Mr. Moose didn’t leave you a stinking mess this time. 😀
