Over The River And Through The Woods

August 23-25. Made it over the river and through the woods and wish I was going to grandmothers house, but back to the hostel I went. The trail was wet and muddy, but what’s new. The fords were still rough, but doable today. After the hike today I joined up with Pilgrim and Joyce again to hike two more days of the 100 mile wilderness with Pilgrim. He missed these two days earlier and had to hike them after his summit in order to finish the 2189.2 miles. We headed out Monday and hiked 16.9 miles to East Branch Lean To. It stormed on us. The trail was a river, shin deep in many places. There were no views today which was too bad because we were told there were nice ones from White Cap Mountain. We stayed at the lean-to with two young girls thru-hiking. It stormed again in the night, but we stayed dry. This was Pilgrims last night on the trail. On Tuesday morning, we were on the trail by 6:30 am. Pilgrim hiked the fastest I’ve ever seen him hike. He was like a horse headed for the barn–his last 11.8 miles of the AT. The weather was good and even though the trail was muddy, it wasn’t a river today. We did have a couple fords, both wet ones, but again, they were doable. Joyce picked us up at Jo-Mary Road and we headed back to Millinocket. I showered and hopped in the car heading for Rangeley (where I left the trail when I went home). I’m heading in the woods in the morning and will be in the woods until Friday, when I pop out in Stratton. I hope to get in around 1, shower, and head to Portland to pick Danny up. Can’t wait for him to get here. He’ll love Maine. I haven’t figured the exact mileage, but I think I have around 120 miles left. Getting closer, but still a way to go.
